Mission
As a part of the Department of Sustainable Organic Chemistry and Technology (Faculty Bioscience Engineering, Ghent University), the Research Group EnVOC focuses on environmental and sustainability issues of organic chemistry and technology, reflected in its research, educational and service activities.
By aid of state-of-the-art and advanced research instrumentation, EnVOC deals with the chemical analysis, occurrence, fate and behaviour of organic micropollutants and investigates innovative abatement technologies for end-of-pipe treatment of waste streams. In a more holistic approach, EnVOC is active on clean technology development and resource-based sustainability assessment through exergetic life cycle analysis.
The group is headed by Prof. Herman Van Langenhove in collaboration with Prof. Jo Dewulf and Prof. Kristof Demeestere, and consists of about 20 staff members including scientific (i.e. about 10-15 post-doc researchers and PhD students), technical and administrative employees.
Each academic year, EnVOC welcomes 10-20 thesis students to make their Master of Science thesis work.
The EnVOC activities are funded through different acknowledged regional, national and international programmes, and intensive collaboration with both academic, governmental and industrial partners is recognized as an added value to our research and education.
